Current 93 – Lucifer Over London (Vinyl Picture Disc)

Once a louche Londoner, and now hidden away somewhere in Hastings, David Tibet is said to have once sealed a damning deal, with the Devil no less, and the former city bore witness. First issued in 1994, Lucifer Over London found David Tibet steer Current 93 through many a cozen cover version, interlacing them with talk of hallucinatory visions and personal myth. It opens with their take on The Groundhogs' 'Sad-Go-Round' from the Solid LP, a nod to Tibet's lifelong admiration for the band, before Michael Cashmore threads in Black Sabbath's 'Paranoid' intro as a sardonic farewell to a group he once played endlessly. The title track's apocalyptic narrative, written at Tibet's former home in Aubrey Road, London E17, came amid long nights of white wine and the company of cats Mao, Rao and Yao.
