Gilbert Scott-Heron was an American soul and jazz poet, musician and author, known primarily for his work as a spoken-word performer in the 1970s and 1980s. His collaborative efforts with musician Brian Jackson featured a musical fusion of jazz, blues, and soul, as well as lyrical content concerning social and political issues of the time, delivered in both rapping and melismatic vocal styles by Scott-Heron. His own term for himself was "bluesologist", which he defined as "a scientist who is concerned with the origin of the blues".The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a compilation album. It was released in 1974 by Flying Dutchman Records and titled after Scott-Heron's 1971 song of the same name. The album features recordings previously featured on Scott-Heron's first three records for Flying Dutchman—Small Talk at 125th and Lenox (1970), Pieces of a Man (1971), and Free Will (1972), which were produced by jazz producer Bob Thiele. The music compiled incorporates funk, jazz, and proto-rap styles.Detalii
